Supermen of Malegaon (Hindi)
Release Date:June 29, 2012
Malegaon, a small town tucked away near the heart of India geographically, is fraught with communal tension and under economic depression. To escape the harsh reality of their world, its people seek refuge in the fantastical world of cinema.
This passion for cinema has spurred a group of cinema enthusiasts to make their own films - quirky, low budget, socially aware and notoriously funny spoofs of Bollywood films. Their ambition has grown and now they are ready to take on Hollywood and Superman.
We follow them on this journey. At times funny, tragic, contemplative. Always warm and engaging. And as the film begins to take shape, through schemes and approaches that are sublimely ingenious, simply bizarre and purely hysterical, we also slowly discover Malegaon itself. The film is a tribute to a spirit that can never be vanquished, the spirit that enables the Supermen of Malegaon to make Malegaon's Superman.
Faiza Ahmad Khan's documentary delightfully portrays the parallel kind of film-making revolving around the shoot of Malegaon Ka Superman that is so engrossing that you'll forget that you are watching a documentary. And there you learn how ordinary looking men, working at handlooms burns a fiery passion within themselves to earn a living and live their hobbies at the same time. Indeed, they are the Supermen of Malegaon.
The keen must watch on screen; else DVD.
One of the most pleasant hours spend in the theater. This subtly satirical documentary is engaging and entertaining. A must watch for sure, in theaters if you are keen.
“Supermen of Malegaon” is a treat to watch. Director Khan documents the film making effort – true, but more importantly she gives us an insight into the passion that drives wedding videographer Nasir to make a film with his meager budget. Nasir’s film, meant to be a parody, takes it’s cues from Bollywood, which means that it has a hero, heroine and a villain, complete with romance, fight sequences and a song. The hero, because he is Superman has a red-and-blue costume with boxers and cape, stitched by the village tailor. Emblazoned on his chest is a bold M for Malegaon. . .
This week there are 5 movies are there in theater Maximum, Daal Mein Kuchh Kaala Hai, Amazing Spider Man, Superman of Malegaon and 3 Bachelors and I watched all of these movies.
