English Vinglish is the story of a woman who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. Shashi is an uncomplicated verse and her emotional turbulence, a short story in prose. This prose is quite familiar and so is the verse: from the way Shashi ties her hair to the way she gives a roundish shape to her sweet creations; from the pride overflowing in her eyes at being referred to as an 'entrepreneur' to the closeted tears in her eyes; from being left alone to being desired. It is an amazing experience to watch such a genuine representation of what we see around.
