The Dirty Picture (Hindi)

Release Date:
December 02, 2011

The story of a make up girl who became an extra in movies and gradually the most wanted heroine of the early 80s. It is the story of Silk Smitha, a sex symbol from the South film industry. Silk knew her audiences well and she seemed unstoppable until she fell in love which could not be fulfilled. She was the queen of sensuality to the world but an ordinary woman at heart who sought true love. An unfortunate encounter with deceit and infidelity led to the tragedy that became her life.

Of being hated and craved for, hers is a story of an artless Reshma, who translates from being a dreamer to the reason behind the wet dreams of a generation of men. Silk's fame, bit by bit, clouds her reflection on the mirror - the Reshma is lost - in the multiple "tuning" and moaning sessions.

Rating: Watch for sure, preferably in theatre

It's dirty and you'll love it. For its wit even if might seem a little over-written. For its nerve even if the after-taste is that of an under-cooked story. For Vidya Balan because she is entertainment!

From the director of Once upon a time in Mumbai, Taxi No. 9211, Kacche Dhaage, Here comes another gem. This film lives up to the expectations. This is much better product and it's not just bold scenes and nudity. In most of the Hindi movies Hero carries most of the burden. In this film Vidya Balan does that work. She's the Hero of the film. Brilliant performance by Vidya Balan. She looks seductive and Acts seductive. She is very convincing in the role of Silk. I wont be exaggerating If I say this is completely Vidya Balan's film. She manages to outperform actor like Naseeruddin Shah.

Naseeruddin Shah is the regular nothing less than good. Emran and Tusshar have also done a great job. They clear the stage for Vidya Balan to perform. All other actors have a cameo. Not much to do. There is one item girl who plays Shakila. Poor choice for the role. Shakila is an icon in Mallu C grade films.

Direction is superb. He manages to get the best of everyone. The look and feel of the film takes you to the 80's. Good Art direction and choice of locations. Cinematography is fantastic but gets unnoticed because of Vidya Balan's performance. The song Ishq Sufiana is visual treat.

Most of the time you'll hear "Ooh la la" in background. But there is one tune at the start which should have been used more . Story is good and predictable. Screenplay should have been better in the second half. Film slows down for sometime there. First half is just too good. Like all Milan Luthriya's film, This film also has some brilliant dialogs though I feel there was little scope for dialogs in the film.

* Emran - Tumhari haar ka jashn mana raha hoon.
Vidya - Kyun? Jeet ka jashn manane k liye koi mila nahi kya?
* Zindagi mayus na ho toh mehsus nahi hoti
* Zindagi ek baar hi milti hai toh do baar kyo sochna?
* Naseer - Maine ab tak 500 ladkiyon ki tuning ki hai..
Vidya - Kabhi ek se 500 bar tuning ki hai?

Good direction. Brilliant Vidya Balan. Terrific dialogs and screenplay. 8/10 from me. One of the best films this year.

Director Milan Luthria and writer Rajat Arora’s The Dirty Picture is a thrilling ride, unapologetic yet never vulgar, into the life of Silk Smitha, a woman who reached dizzying heights of fame by banking on the one thing everyone wanted from her: sex.

Final few words: A dirty mind just saw a dirty picture and cant get Vidya Balans Stomach and Cleavage out of his head.
